How Eastman Chemical makes money
Eastman sells materials and chemical products to manufacturers in many industries through four segments. The higher-value specialty lines (Advanced Materials and Additives & Functional Products) sit alongside commodity-type chemical intermediates and fibers.
What Eastman Chemical does
Eastman Chemical Company, founded in 1920 and headquartered in Kingsport, Tennessee, is a specialty materials producer selling in the US, China and elsewhere. It reports four segments. Advanced Materials makes copolyesters, cellulosic biopolymers, polyvinyl butyral sheets, and polyester, window and protective films. Additives & Functional Products supplies coalescents, solvents, paint additives, specialty polymers, amine-based intermediates, soil fumigants, and heat transfer and aviation fluids. Chemical Intermediates produces olefin and acetyl derivatives, amines, ethylene, commodity solvents and plasticizers. Fibers makes cellulose acetate tow, mainly for cigarette filters, along with acetate yarns, staple fiber, nonwoven media and engineered papers. Its customers span transportation, building and construction, electronics, consumables, food and feed, agriculture, and health and wellness, so demand tracks the wider industrial and consumer economy.

What is Eastman Chemical worth?
On an owner-earnings DCF, Eastman Chemical's most-likely value is about $84 versus a recent price near $63 (34% below fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$60) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.
Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.
⚠ High leverage — net debt is 6.1× annual cash flow. Net debt is subtracted from this fair value, but refinancing at higher rates, principal timing, and share dilution aren’t modeled — the equity can be worth far less if cash flow weakens.
Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
