How Celanese makes money

It sells engineered polymers and acetyl-chain chemicals to manufacturers, OEMs and suppliers, both directly and through distributors, earning revenue from product volume and pricing across many industrial end markets.

What Celanese does

Celanese Corporation, founded in 1912 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, is a global chemical and specialty materials company operating through two segments: Engineered Materials and Acetyl Chain. Engineered Materials produces high-performance polymers such as polyoxymethylene, nylon and polypropylene compounds, liquid crystal polymers, UHMW polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomers, sold under well-known brands including Zytel, Hytrel, Santoprene, Celcon, Vectra and GUR for automotive, electronics, medical, energy storage and industrial uses. The Acetyl Chain segment supplies foundational chemicals, including acetic acid and anhydride, vinyl acetate monomer, acetate flakes and tow, formaldehyde, solvents, emulsion polymers and redispersible powders, used in paints, coatings, adhesives, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals and construction. Celanese sells directly and through distributors to manufacturers, OEMs and suppliers worldwide, and has a strategic partnership with VIGOR Precision Ltd.

What is Celanese worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Celanese's most-likely value is about $78 versus a recent price near $45 (73% below fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$52) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Deeply discounted.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Deeply discounted
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $45
Fair value (most likely)
$78
Range
$62–$105
No-growth floor
$52
Price
~$45

On the financials alone, $45 is below even the no-growth floor ($52); the market's discount — expectations and sentiment beyond the numbers — is pricing in ≈ -2.2%/yr. A bargain only if that pessimism is overdone.

⚠ High leverage — net debt is 15.6× annual cash flow. Net debt is subtracted from this fair value, but refinancing at higher rates, principal timing, and share dilution aren’t modeled — the equity can be worth far less if cash flow weakens.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
