How Ashland makes money

Ashland sells specialty additives and ingredients to manufacturers in pharmaceuticals, personal care, food and beverage, coatings, construction and energy. It also sells intermediate chemicals such as 1,4 butanediol and n-methylpyrrolidone.

What Ashland does

Ashland Inc. is a Wilmington, Delaware-based specialty chemicals company founded in 1924 (formerly Ashland Global Holdings, renamed in August 2022). It supplies additives and specialty ingredients in North and Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and other regions. It reports four segments: Life Sciences (pharmaceutical excipients, nutrition ingredients, agricultural chemicals, diagnostic films, fine chemicals), Personal Care (natural and biodegradable ingredients, oral care and household solutions), Specialty Additives (rheology modifiers, foam control agents, surfactants, ceramics and electronics materials) and Intermediates (1,4 butanediol and derivatives such as NMP). Its products are sold to manufacturers in consumer and industrial markets, including architectural coatings, construction, energy, food and beverage, personal care and pharmaceuticals. Because its ingredients are small but essential parts of customers' formulations, Ashland's business is tied to demand in these end markets.

What is Ashland worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Ashland's most-likely value is about $57 versus a recent price near $71 (19% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$39) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
