How Saia makes money

Saia earns freight charges from shippers for moving less-than-truckload shipments through its owned terminal and truck network. It also collects fees for brokered truckload, expedited and other logistics services.

What Saia does

Saia, Inc. is a North American transportation company focused on less-than-truckload (LTL) freight, meaning shipments of roughly 100 to 10,000 pounds from multiple customers that share space on the same truck. As of December 31, 2025, it ran 213 owned and leased terminals and owned about 7,700 tractors and 26,500 trailers, so it runs its own large asset-based network. Beyond core LTL, Saia offers value-added services including brokered truckload, expedited transportation and other logistics. Founded in 1924 and known as SCS Transportation until July 2002, the company is headquartered in Johns Creek, Georgia.

What is Saia worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Saia's most-likely value is about $239 versus a recent price near $337 (29% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$96) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Fair value (most likely)

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
