How Schneider National makes money

It earns freight revenue by hauling goods with its own trucks, trailers, and intermodal containers, and earns brokerage and service fees by arranging freight on third-party carriers and providing supply chain and warehousing services. It also earns money by leasing trucks to owner-operators and selling insurance to drivers.

What Schneider National does

Schneider National is a Green Bay, Wisconsin-based transportation and logistics company founded in 1935, operating across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It reports three segments. Truckload hauls freight in dry van, bulk, temperature-controlled, lightweight, and flatbed trailers, either dedicated to one customer or run across its broader network. Intermodal provides door-to-door service by moving company-owned containers on rail, with company trucks and chassis handling pickup and delivery. The Logistics segment is asset-light: it brokers freight on other carriers and offers supply chain, warehousing, import/export, and other value-added services. Schneider also leases trucks to owner-operators and provides insurance to drivers and owner-operators. Together these give it both asset-based and asset-light sources of revenue.

What is Schneider National worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Schneider National's most-likely value is about $30 versus a recent price near $32 (6% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$16) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
