How Ovintiv makes money

Ovintiv earns revenue by producing and marketing crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and natural gas from its U.S. and Canadian acreage. Its results depend on how much it produces and on commodity prices.

What Ovintiv does

Ovintiv Inc. is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company based in Denver, Colorado. It explores for, develops, produces and markets oil, NGLs and natural gas. It reports two segments, USA Operations and Canadian Operations. Its main U.S. assets are in the Permian in West Texas and the Anadarko in west-central Oklahoma. In Canada it operates in the Montney play in northwest Alberta and northeast British Columbia. The company used to be called Encana Corporation and took the name Ovintiv in January 2020. Because it is an upstream producer, its earnings move closely with oil and gas prices and with how much it produces from these core basins.

What is Ovintiv worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Ovintiv's most-likely value is about $88 versus a recent price near $64 (37% below fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$66) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
