How Generac makes money

Most of its revenue comes from selling generators, energy storage and power equipment through dealers, distributors, retailers, e-commerce, rental companies and solar installers. It also earns money from aftermarket parts, accessories and software-as-a-service contracts.

What Generac does

Generac Holdings, founded in 1959 and based in Waukesha, Wisconsin, designs, manufactures and distributes energy technology products worldwide. Its best-known products are residential automatic standby generators and transfer switches, which come with Mobile Link remote monitoring. Its residential range also covers portable and inverter generators, portable batteries, home energy storage, smart thermostats, home monitoring devices, doorbell cameras and outdoor power equipment. On the commercial and industrial side, Generac sells natural gas and megawatt-scale diesel generators, light-commercial and industrial standby systems, mobile generators, light towers, pumps and heaters, and battery energy storage systems with inverters. It also offers microgrid solutions, software-as-a-service contracts and aftermarket parts. It sells through a wide channel network that includes independent dealers, industrial distributors, retailers, e-commerce partners, electrical, HVAC and solar wholesalers, solar installers and equipment rental companies, and it also sells directly to end users.

What is Generac worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Generac's most-likely value is about $163 versus a recent price near $225 (27% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$71) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $225
Fair value (most likely)
$163
Range
$107–$329
No-growth floor

Price

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
