What Darling Ingredients does
Darling Ingredients is a large-scale recycler of animal and food by-products. It runs three segments. Feed Ingredients turns animal by-products, bakery residuals, used cooking oil, and blood into oils, protein meals, plasma, pet food inputs, and fertilizers, and also raises black soldier fly larvae for specialty proteins. Food Ingredients makes collagen (Rousselot, Gelnex), natural casings, crude heparin, and food-grade fats from bones, hides, skins, and intestines. Fuel Ingredients converts sludge, food waste, fallen stock, and manure into biogas, low-grade energy, and bio-phosphate, and supplies fuel feedstock and agriculture-based biofuels. The company was founded in 1882 and renamed from Darling International in 2014. Its business depends on steady supplies of by-products from meat processing and food service. It earns money both from collection and disposal services and from selling the finished ingredients. Its products go to feed, pet food, food, pharmaceutical, and renewable energy markets.

What is Darling Ingredients worth?
On an owner-earnings DCF, Darling Ingredients's most-likely value is about $54 versus a recent price near $60 (11% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$28) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.
Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.
⚠ High leverage — net debt is 7.2× annual cash flow. Net debt is subtracted from this fair value, but refinancing at higher rates, principal timing, and share dilution aren’t modeled — the equity can be worth far less if cash flow weakens.
Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
