How Minerals Technologies makes money

It earns revenue by selling mineral-based products, specialty additives, refractory materials, and related services to consumer, paper, foundry, construction and industrial customers, mostly through its direct sales force and also through regional distributors.

What Minerals Technologies does

Minerals Technologies Inc. is a New York-based maker of mineral and mineral-based products, incorporated in 1968. It has two segments. Consumer & Specialties covers household and personal care products such as SIVO cat litter, plus ingredients for fabric care, edible oil and renewable fluid purification, animal health and agriculture. It also includes specialty additives like precipitated and ground calcium carbonate, which are used in paper, paperboard, fiber-based packaging, automotive, construction and consumer applications. Engineered Solutions supplies high-temperature technologies, including custom-blended materials for casting auto, truck, equipment and infrastructure parts, along with refractory products and PYROID carbon composites. It also sells environmental and infrastructure products such as geosynthetic clay liners, vapor intrusion mitigation, waterproofing, green roofs, wastewater remediation, drinking water purification and drilling products, plus filtration and well testing services. The company sells mainly through its own sales force and operates across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.

What is Minerals Technologies worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Minerals Technologies's most-likely value is about $49 versus a recent price near $64 (23% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$33) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $64
Fair value (most likely)
$49
Range
$40–$63
No-growth floor
$33
Price
~$64

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

⚠ High leverage — net debt is 5.1× annual cash flow. Net debt is subtracted from this fair value, but refinancing at higher rates, principal timing, and share dilution aren’t modeled — the equity can be worth far less if cash flow weakens.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
