How Hubbell makes money

Hubbell makes and sells electrical and grid products under its own brands. Most of its revenue comes through electrical and industrial distributors, wholesalers, home centers, and retailers, and it also sells straight to utilities, contractors, and original equipment manufacturers.

What Hubbell does

Hubbell Incorporated, founded in 1888 and based in Shelton, Connecticut, supplies electrical and utility products in the U.S. and internationally. It has two segments. Utility Solutions makes the parts that let the grid carry power, such as arresters, insulators, connectors, anchors, bushings, enclosures, cutouts, and switches. It also makes equipment for the edge of the grid, including smart meters, communications systems, and protection and control devices. These products go to the distribution, substation, transmission, metering, telecom, and gas distribution markets. Electrical Solutions makes standard and special-application wiring devices, rough-in electrical products, connectors, grounding products, and industrial controls and communication systems. Its customers are industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities, plus the oil and gas and mining industries. It sells mainly through electrical and industrial distributors, home centers, retail outlets, and online channels. Special-application products go mostly through wholesale distributors to contractors, industrial customers, and OEMs.

What is Hubbell worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Hubbell's most-likely value is about $325 versus a recent price near $474 (31% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$149) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $474
Fair value (most likely)
$325
Range
$235–$501
No-growth floor
$149
Price
~$474

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

⚠ High leverage — net debt is 5.7× annual cash flow. Net debt is subtracted from this fair value, but refinancing at higher rates, principal timing, and share dilution aren’t modeled — the equity can be worth far less if cash flow weakens.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
