What Shopify does

Shopify provides the software and services merchants use to sell online and in person — storefronts, checkout, payments, shipping, inventory and marketing tools. From solo entrepreneurs to large brands, businesses run their commerce on Shopify across websites, social media and physical points of sale.

How Shopify makes money

Shopify makes money two ways: recurring subscription fees for access to its platform (Basic to Plus tiers), and merchant-solutions revenue that scales with sales volume — mainly payment processing (Shopify Payments) plus shipping, capital/lending and other services. As merchants grow, Shopify's take grows with them.
