What Royal Gold Does & How It Makes Money (RGLD)
Updated October 2026 · reflects Royal Gold's latest reported financials
Precious metals streaming and royalty company funding mines worldwide. It earns money two ways.
How Royal Gold makes money
It earns money two ways. Stream deals let it buy a set share of a mine's metal at a pre-agreed price and then sell that metal. Royalty deals pay it a percentage of a mine's production or revenue. It gets these interests by buying existing ones or by funding mining projects at the exploration, development or production stage.
What Royal Gold does
Royal Gold, Inc. is a Denver-based company, incorporated in 1981, that buys and manages streams, royalties and similar interests in precious metals. It reports two segments, stream interests and royalty interests. It builds its portfolio by buying existing interests and by funding mining projects at the production, development or exploration stage in return for a stream or royalty. The portfolio centers on gold but also covers silver, copper, nickel, zinc, lead, molybdenum, platinum-group metals, lithium, cobalt, uranium and other commodities. Its properties are spread across countries including Canada, Chile, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Zambia, Australia, Ghana and Brazil. Because it doesn't operate mines, its business gives exposure to metal prices and mine output without the company running mining operations itself.

What is Royal Gold worth?
On an owner-earnings DCF, Royal Gold's most-likely value is about $106 versus a recent price near $236 (55% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$62) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.
Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.
Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
