How Hecla Mining makes money
Hecla earns money by mining ore and selling silver- and gold-bearing concentrates, carbon material and doré to smelters, traders and processors. Its revenue rises and falls with metal prices and how much it produces.
What Hecla Mining does
Hecla Mining Company is a precious and base metals producer that mines silver, gold, lead and zinc. It turns the ore into concentrates, silver- and gold-bearing carbon material, and unrefined doré, then sells these products to custom smelters, metal traders and third-party processors in the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, China and other markets. The company was incorporated in 1891 and is headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, which makes it one of the oldest mining companies in the US. Most of its value comes from silver and gold, so its results depend heavily on precious metal prices and on how much metal its mines produce.

What is Hecla Mining worth?
On an owner-earnings DCF, Hecla Mining's most-likely value is about $6 versus a recent price near $17 (67% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$4) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Stretched — richly priced.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.
Today's $17 is above even the optimistic Bull case ($8) — the market expects faster, longer growth than modeled here. Expensive unless that extra growth actually shows up.
Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
