How Fabrinet makes money

Fabrinet earns revenue as an outsourced manufacturer. Original equipment makers pay it to engineer, source parts for, assemble, package, and test their optical, laser, sensor, and electronic products, which then ship under the customers' own brands.

What Fabrinet does

Fabrinet is a behind-the-scenes builder for the optical and photonics industry. Rather than selling its own branded gear, it manufactures precision products for other companies. Its work spans process design and engineering, supply chain management, circuit board assembly, packaging, final assembly, and testing. Many of the products it builds move light through fiber: transceivers, tunable lasers, optical amplifiers, reconfigurable add-drop multiplexers, and active optical cables that carry voice, video, and data across telecom networks and inside data centers and computing clusters. Fabrinet also works outside communications. It makes lasers used in semiconductor processing, biotech, metrology, and materials processing, as well as pressure, gyro, and fuel sensors for cars and non-contact temperature sensors for medical use. It also designs and fabricates custom crystals, lenses, prisms, mirrors, and specialty quartz and silica glass. The company was incorporated in 1999 and is based in George Town, Cayman Islands. It serves customers in North America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

What is Fabrinet worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Fabrinet's most-likely value is about $260 versus a recent price near $486 (47% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$76) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Fair value (most likely)

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

⚠ Capital-intensive — this business reinvests heavily, so free cash flow runs well below its earnings. Fair value here is built on free cash flow, which understates owner earnings for reinvestment-heavy companies — read it as conservative.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
