How Danaher makes money

Danaher sells instruments, software, and services to biopharma companies, research labs, and hospitals, and earns ongoing revenue from the consumables, reagents, and services those customers use. Revenue comes from three segments: Biotechnology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostics.

What Danaher does

Danaher Corporation is a Washington, D.C.-based maker of scientific and medical tools. It serves drug developers, research labs, and clinical settings in the United States, China, and internationally. It runs three segments. Biotechnology supplies the technologies and consumables used to develop and manufacture therapies, including cell culture media, chromatography resins, filtration, single-use hardware, and full manufacturing suite design. Life Sciences provides mass spectrometers, flow cytometry, genomics and lab automation instruments, microscopes, antibodies, and genomic medicine inputs such as plasmid DNA and RNA. Its brands include Abcam, Aldevron, Beckman Coulter, IDT, Leica Microsystems, Pall, and SCIEX. The Diagnostics segment sells clinical instruments, consumables, software, and services that hospitals, physicians' offices, and reference labs use to diagnose disease and guide treatment. Much of its business pairs instruments with recurring sales of consumables and services. The company was incorporated in 1969 as Diversified Mortgage Investors and took the Danaher name in 1984.

What is Danaher worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Danaher's most-likely value is about $163 versus a recent price near $220 (26% above fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$85) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
