How Cardinal Health makes money

It earns money mainly from distribution margins on branded, generic, and specialty drugs and on medical-surgical products it delivers to healthcare providers. It also earns revenue from selling its own Cardinal Health branded products and from services such as pharmacy management, specialty drug services, supply chain solutions, and radiopharmaceuticals.

What Cardinal Health does

Cardinal Health, founded in 1979 and headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, is a healthcare services and products company that operates in the United States and internationally. It reports two segments. Pharmaceutical and Specialty Solutions distributes branded, generic, specialty, and over-the-counter products, and offers specialty drug services to manufacturers and providers. This segment also manages hospital pharmacies, operates pharmacies including some in community health centers, repackages generics, and makes and delivers radiopharmaceuticals. Global Medical Products and Distribution manufactures and sources Cardinal Health branded products, including gloves, needles and syringes, sharps disposals, wound care, incontinence and compression items, surgical drapes and gowns, urology products, and electrodes. It also distributes national-brand medical, surgical, and lab products, assembles procedure kits, and provides supply chain services to hospitals, surgery centers, labs, and other providers.

What is Cardinal Health worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Cardinal Health's most-likely value is about $410 versus a recent price near $238 (73% below fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$178) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $238
Fair value (most likely)
$410
Range
$281–$657
No-growth floor
$178
Price
~$238

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
