How Biogen makes money

Biogen makes money by selling its prescription drugs and biosimilars. It also earns revenue from collaboration and license deals, such as its share of anti-CD20 therapies like OCREVUS and RITUXAN developed with Genentech, and co-commercialization deals like LEQEMBI with Eisai.

What Biogen does

Biogen, founded in 1978 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a biotech company focused mainly on neurology. Its multiple sclerosis drugs include TECFIDERA, VUMERITY, AVONEX, PLEGRIDY and TYSABRI. It also sells SPINRAZA for spinal muscular atrophy, QALSODY for ALS, SKYCLARYS for Friedreich's ataxia, LEQEMBI for Alzheimer's disease and ZURZUVAE for postpartum depression. Outside neurology, it sells the biosimilars BENEPALI, IMRALDI and FLIXABI, and FUMADERM for psoriasis. Partnerships are central to how Biogen works. It has collaboration and license agreements with Eisai, Genentech, Ionis, Sage, Samsung Bioepis, Denali and UCB, among others. Through Genentech it takes part in anti-CD20 therapies such as OCREVUS, RITUXAN, GAZYVA and LUNSUMIO. Its newer deals include one with Stoke Therapeutics on zorevunersen for Dravet syndrome, plus agreements on RNAi therapies, oral peptides and subcutaneous formulations.

What is Biogen worth?

On an owner-earnings DCF, Biogen's most-likely value is about $292 versus a recent price near $226 (29% below fair value). But TacticScale only calls a stock undervalued when the price sits below its conservative no-growth floor (~$199) with a margin of safety — so the honest verdict here is “Fairly priced — no edge.” Fair value earns its keep only at the extremes, not in the wide middle.

Verdict: Fairly priced — no edge
Owner-earnings fair value · recent price ≈ $226
Fair value (most likely)
$292
Range
$240–$409
No-growth floor
$199
Price
~$226

Price sits in the normal range — fair value isn't actionable here; it earns its keep only when price drops below the no-growth floor, or runs to roughly double the optimistic case.

Analysis, not advice. Fair value is a margin-of-safety estimate from a deterministic owner-earnings DCF, not a price target or recommendation. See the full breakdown →
