Tongwei makes the high-purity silicon that goes into solar panels, and further down the chain it also produces silicon wafers, solar cells and finished modules. It also runs solar power plants that sell electricity. Separately, it has a long-running agriculture business that makes animal and fish feed and does aquaculture and food processing.

How Tongwei makes money

Most of its revenue comes from selling polysilicon, solar cells and modules to solar manufacturers and project developers, so its results move with solar-material prices. It also earns money selling electricity from its solar plants and selling feed and aquaculture products.
