What Shanxi Coking does

Shanxi Coking bakes coal into metallurgical coke, the fuel steel mills use to make iron. Heating the coal also gives off gases and residues, and the company turns these into chemicals such as benzene, toluene, xylene, methanol, asphalt and carbon black.

How Shanxi Coking makes money

It earns most of its money selling metallurgical coke, mainly to steelmakers in China. Selling chemical by-products recovered during coking adds more revenue.
