Netcapital runs an online platform where private companies can raise money directly from investors, and where everyday investors in the US can buy stakes in private startups and businesses. It handles much of the paperwork, compliance and marketing needed to run an online fundraising round. A separate advisory arm helps early-stage companies grow and sometimes takes an ownership stake in them.

How Netcapital makes money

It earns fees from companies that use its platform to raise capital and from advisory services such as marketing, strategy, and software development. Its advisory arm also takes equity stakes in some client companies, which can be worth more if those companies grow.
